Maryland Lottery score comes just before family’s annual vacation
A Keno enthusiast from Kingsville was enjoying a meal, a beer and a slate of Keno games a few days before his family’s annual vacation when he won $30,042 – just in time to perk up the pending sojourn.
“I was sitting at the bar and having a beer,” the winner said July 30 upon claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. His typical is to play a seven-spot game for 10 draws with the super bonus feature added, and then watch the numbers come up as he eats.
On July 24, the occasion of his win, he had just watched a game where he missed winning because a single number from the field of 80 did not come up among the 20 drawn. He figured that would be his best luck of the day. Then, on the next game, five of his seven chosen numbers came up and he still had more numbers to be drawn. For the first few of the remaining hits, he had no matches, then the last two were the ones he needed, 64 and 55.
“That was unbelievable,” he said.
Keeping his win a secret, he plans to reveal the surprise to his family just before they depart for vacation this weekend.
“Hopefully, I’ll win something on the cruise,” he said, noting that he plans to keep on playing Keno because he enjoys the suspense.
His most recent win is his largest to date, however he once had a $15,000 score on Keno as well as a win of $5,000 on Pick 4 (a game he says he plays only very rarely).
Sharing in the winner’s good fortune is DeSantis’ Pizza Grill & Bar at 9638-B Belair Road in Nottingham, which receives a bonus of $300.42, equal to 1% of the prize.
