Avid player claims $30,000 top prize
Lottery luck was shining bright on a Prince George’s County resident when he stopped at a gas station to buy his daily games. He selected the Diamond Bingo scratch-off after watching a player before him buy the same game. The other player didn’t fare nearly as well as the Capitol Heights man, who won a $30,000 top prize.
The 62-year-old was out running errands when he decided to stop at Allentown Valero gas station in Fort Washington to make his Lottery purchase. While there, the retired federal government employee noticed another customer playing a $3 Diamond Bingo instant ticket. He decided to try his luck at the same game. The Lottery fan bought three instant tickets and, instead of scratching them off, scanned their prize check area in the store. To his surprise, the second scratch-off revealed the big $30,000 prize.
“I saw the congratulations message and knew I was a winner,” said the single father of an adult son. He didn’t stick around after seeing his win but left immediately for home. The winner also didn’t share the news with anyone right away. “I just sat back and relaxed,” said the lucky player.
When asked what he would do with the prize, the avid player said he would help a few family members and take a vacation.
Also celebrating is the Allentown Valero gas station located at 7713 Allentown Road in Fort Washington. The retailer earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $30,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
Big prizes remain unclaimed on the Diamond Bingo scratch-off, which went on sale in July 2021. There still is one more $30,000 top prize remaining as well as 41 unclaimed $1,000 prizes.
