Grateful Lottery player feels blessed after big win
Her dad might have had a hand in her $50,000 Pick 5 win, noted a Maryland woman going by the nickname “Glo.” She recently visited Lottery headquarters accompanied by her family to claim the prize on a ticket purchase inspired by thoughts of her late father.
The Timonium-area resident has been a devoted Lottery player for nearly four decades. “Glo” has primarily played Multi-Match but occasionally tries her luck with Pick 5 or scratch-offs. Her big win came during a routine outing after she left a family member’s home. Stuck in traffic, “Glo” noticed a license plate that instantly reminded her of her late father because it displayed his birthday. She took it as a sign of good fortune and stopped by the Marathon station at 1601 York Road in Lutherville to purchase a Pick 5 ticket using those special numbers.
Weeks later, while out with her sister, “Glo” decided to scan her tickets to check for a win. To her amazement, she discovered she won $50,000 in the Nov. 1 Pick 5 evening drawing. “Stunned” was her immediate reaction, followed by a celebratory moment with her sister before rushing home to share the exciting news with her family.
When asked about her plans for the windfall, “Glo” said she will set aside a portion of the money for her children’s future and use the remainder to renovate her home.
Despite the big win, “Glo” reports that she will keep trying for another round of Lottery luck. “If you have a chance to play, then you have a chance to win,” she said with a smile. “I’ll keep testing my luck. Hopefully, I’ll win again — God willing, for even more — but either way, I’m blessed.”
Her $50,000 win on a $1 straight bet ticket also brings good news to the Marathon station. For selling a $50,000 Pick 5 ticket, the station will receive a $500 Lottery bonus.
