Scratch-off team takes home a top prize playing 20X The Cash game
The husband buys and the wife scratches. That’s how a lucky Dundalk woman explained their winning process of playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs that paid off to the tune of $50,000.
Last week, the husband of the winning duo gave his wife money to go play their Lottery numbers and to purchase some scratch-offs. She ventured out to the BP gas station in Dundalk and bought their daily games and several instant tickets, including two 20X The Cash scratch-offs. The Baltimore resident returned home to find a house full of grandkids, so she sat out in the yard, enjoying their company and scratching off her games. When she began to scratch one of the instant tickets, she noticed a “10X” symbol right away and knew she was in for a win.
“I saw that symbol and a five, so I figured it was $50,” she said, smiling. “But, then I saw the zeros and realized it was $5,000.”
That’s right, the lucky grandma was looking at a $50,000 winning ticket! She said she just started screaming and called for her daughter and husband to come see the $5 scratch-off.
“We all just celebrated,” said the husband, chuckling at the memory while they claimed the prize last week at Lottery headquarters. “The kids were just looking at us like, ‘What’s going on?’”
The couple, who have been married for four decades, said they have never taken a vacation and that is on the top of their list of things to do with the prize. They also shared with Lottery officials that they will pay some bills and save the rest of the funds.
Celebrating with the happy couple is Dundalk BP, the Lottery retailer that sold the top-prize winning scratch-off. The store, located at 2100 Merritt Boulevard in Baltimore County, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The 20X The Cash game went on sale in January with eight $50,000 top prizes; three remain. In addition, there are three $5,000 prizes left as well as hundreds of thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000. The game is one of six members of the X The Cash scratch-off family and part of a second-chance promotion.
