Baltimore woman wins Holiday Riches game’s top prize
A scratch-off intended to celebrate holidays long past delivered one heck of a gift to a medical transport specialist last week. Recent snowfalls that brought to mind a wintry holiday scene played no role in the Baltimore woman’s decision to select the Holiday Riches scratch-off that gave her a $50,000 top prize.
“I had just dropped off a patient and was taking a break when I saw a store’s Lottery sign, so I stopped.” The 64-year-old studied the offerings in the Lottery vending equipment at Jolly’s Food Mart until her eyes kept coming back to the Holiday Riches game. “There is absolutely no reason I can give you why I chose it,” she said. “I just chose it.”
The loyal player scratched and then scanned her $5 game in the Baltimore City store, becoming confused when the ticket scanner instructed her to take the scratch-off to Lottery headquarters. “I’ve been playing these things for a long time,” she said. “I’d never seen that message.”
She next had the cashier check her instant ticket for a win. After running it through the terminal, he asked her to join him in the back of the store. “I thought it was odd, but when he whispered to me that I had just won $50,000, I knew why.” Our winner gave the employee a hug and then played it cool walking out of the crowded store. “When I got out to the car I started crying. What a blessing!”
The lucky lady plans to pay off several bills and use the remainder of her riches to help people in her life. “Times are tough for a few people that I’m close to,” she said. “They could use a hand.”
Her top-prize scratch-off win also helps the management of Jolly’s Food Mart at 1500 North Monroe Street in Baltimore. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the store earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
The Holiday Riches game is nearing its end, with Oct. 3 the last date to claim a prize.
