Prince George’s County man wins $50,000 in Dec. 2 drawing
He made the switch a month ago, a Lanham resident told Lottery officials this week. He stopped relying on the quick-pick option to select his Powerball numbers, after having done so for years. He has instead used family birthdates and years for his numbers these last few weeks and, wouldn’t you know it, the decision changed his luck in a big way on Dec. 2.
“I recognized the numbers immediately when I checked the results online,” said the Prince George’s County social worker. “It was such a shock. I called my wife to tell her. She had to sit down to keep from falling.”
It was a fuel fill-up at Landover Hills Exxon in Landover that put the $50,000 third-tier winning ticket in his pocket, he said. “I do my best to have a ticket for every Powerball drawing, but I hadn’t yet gotten any when I stopped at the gas station. I sure am glad it occurred to me to buy my ticket then. I might not have remembered to get one before that night’s drawing.”
The winner plans to use his Powerball winnings to pay down his mortgage. “This is such a happy thing for my family. Really fantastic.” If you’re looking for some Powerball luck of your own, there may still be some floating around the lucky Exxon station at 6579 Annapolis Road in Landover.
The Powerball jackpot is still on a roll, reaching an estimated annuity of $260 million for the Saturday, Dec. 7 drawing. The cash option is $123 million.
