$1 straight bet gives Eastern Shore man a $50,000 win
He’s played the same combination of numbers for almost a decade, the Caroline County resident said, hoping good luck to find him. Well, the evening Pick 5 drawing on Nov. 13 ended his wait for a big winner. The $50,000 his loyalty delivered is the largest prize the longtime player has ever taken home.
“As long as I’ve been buying tickets I have used 3-1-8, in one form or another,” the retired factory worker explained. “I’ll just add a number or two to make it work for whatever game I’m playing.” The 318 sequence is a date important to his family, as are whichever digits he adds to the combination. “I’ve won before with my 318, but never this big.”
The Eastern Shore man purchased his big winner from R&R Beer, Wine & Liquor at 121 S. Washington Street in Easton. He told Lottery officials that he was visiting a friend nearby when he decided to buy the $1 straight bet ticket that answered his prayers.
He realized that his favorite combination had come through thanks to his Lottery app. “When I saw the winning number, my hands started shaking.” He called a neighbor to confirm what he was seeing and, a few minutes later, the neighbor’s hands were shaking, too.
“It’s shock at first and then joy,” the loyal player said when asked how he felt upon learning of his $50,000 win. “I just cannot believe this is happening.”

Also sharing in the fun are the owners of R&R Beer, Wine & Liquor, who will receive a $500 bonus for selling the lucky ticket. The happy winner did say he intends to visit the Talbot County business more often in the future.
