Newcomer to the game wins big on his third ticket
A dedicated player of Maryland Lottery Pick 3 and Pick 4 games enjoyed a major change of luck earlier this month when he added a Racetrax ticket to his morning purchases.
The Forestville trucker rises early every morning and stopped at Royal Farms #166 in Upper Marlboro on his way to work. He bought his tickets for Pick 3 and Pick 4 and decided, on a whim, to play Racetrax, too.
“I won on 10 and 11, a Quinella bet, a few months ago,” he said. “I hit on my first try and won about $350.”
That Lottery luck inspired his decision to try the game again on Nov. 19. The Prince George’s County resident punched in the numbers 10 and 11 on the Lottery vending machine and paused.
“I said to myself, ‘You know what? I’m going to do 10, 11, 12.” He played the Trifecta combo for 20 races and left the store.
That night, he was relaxing at home after a long day of driving and decided to check his tickets before he went to bed, which is around 8 p.m. because he has to get up so early. When he realized he won $30,734, the married father of two adult children grew excited.
“I checked it two or three times,” he said. “Then, I called my wife to the room and said, ‘Hey, I’ve got a winner!’ I had to ask her to check it again.”
She shared his excitement and his ideas for what to do with the unexpected windfall. They plan to get her vehicle repaired, “catch up on bills” and put the rest of the prize in the bank.
His lucky retailer, Royal Farms #166, shares in the fun of the big win. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more, the retailer located at 1700 Sansbury Road in Upper Marlboro will receive a $307.34 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
