Purchased Peppermint Payout instant ticket at Thurmont grocery
A husband and wife from northern Frederick County are more excited than ever about playing Maryland Lottery games after their first big win: $30,000 on the Peppermint Payout scratch-off game.
The two have played Lottery games for years, but their previous personal best win was $1,000 about two years ago.
“After that, it was all downhill. Until this!” the wife said while claiming the prize with her husband at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
They purchased the winning ticket on a recent grocery excursion to Food Lion store in the Orchard Village shopping center, 231 Tippin Drive, in Thurmont. The pair scratched off the $3 game at home and were surprised to reveal a $30,000 top prize.
“We had to look at it about three times,” the husband said.
They plan to buy a pickup truck with their winnings. Asked if they’ll continue playing Lottery games, the husband said, “Oh yeah! We’re going to hit it again, only for a little bit more, maybe $250,000!”
For selling a $30,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Food Lion receives a Lottery bonus of $300.
The Frederick County couple discovered the second of six top prizes on the Peppermint Payout instant ticket. There are more than 400,000 remaining prizes ranging from $3 to $500 on the game.
