Claims $100,000 prize from 2020 drawing
A Frederick man was getting a relaxing massage at the mall when he heard that someone in the area had won a $100,000 Powerball prize. The Maryland Lottery player then checked his $6 ticket from the Dec. 16 drawing and discovered he was that lucky someone.
The 53-year-old had bought his ticket at FSK News, which is located at 5500 Buckeystown Pike in Frederick. He played two sets of personal numbers and added the Power Play multiplier feature to the ticket. The Frederick County resident routinely plays the same numbers, which consist of his son’s date of birth.
When he realized that the Power Play feature had doubled his third-tier prize to $100,000, the Western Maryland man first felt nervous. He did not want to become too excited before fully confirming the big win. After visiting the Lottery website and confirming his numbers matched the winning numbers, the loyal player says he just couldn’t have been happier.
“I’ve always been a positive thinker,” said the lucky winner. He has played Maryland Lottery games since relocating from Connecticut 20 years ago. “The Lottery is my second love after my wife,” the happy man joked. He has won small amounts in the past, but this is his biggest prize ever.
Our winner hasn’t shared the news of his good fortune with anyone yet. When asked of his plans for the prize, he said he planned to buy his first car.
Other Powerball players can try to follow this player’s path to the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle. There is still time to buy tickets for tonight’s Powerball drawing and try to win the $410 million jackpot. The cash option is $316.4 million. This is the largest Powerball jackpot since March 2019, when a player in Wisconsin won the $768.4 million jackpot. The jackpot was last hit in the Sept. 16, 2020 drawing in New York.
