Clinton woman finds first top prize in game
On her way home from shopping with her son, a Prince George’s County resident realized that she’d forgotten one item from her list – Lottery scratch-offs. The stop she made to correct the oversight put her in the right place at the right time to win $200,000.
“I’d just dropped my son off when I remembered,” the homemaker and occasional player told Lottery officials this week. “I still wanted to get a couple of tickets, but I don’t know his area very well.” Hoping to find a Lottery retailer close by, the Clinton woman soon noticed a jackpot sign in the door of the Temple Hills Kash King check-cashing store.
Once inside, our lucky winner saw that the store sold Ravens X10, a $10 scratch-off. “This was the ticket I’d planned to get at the grocery store with my son. A friend of mine won $500 and $75 playing it last week. She recommended that I try it.”
Scratching off her instant ticket there in the store, she could not believe what she was seeing. “My heart started beating so fast. It was overwhelming.” Regaining her composure, the mother of two drove home where she shared the news with her husband. “He was doubtful at first, just as I had been,” she shared. “It took a while, but eventually he could accept what had happened. It was a wonderful moment.”
When asked what had gone through her mind when she first saw the $200,000 prize, the player answered, “Our house.” Paying off the mortgage on their home will be the family’s first priority, something they’ve been anxious to do for a long while. “There were times that we thought it’d never happen.”
This $200,000 top prize is the Ravens X10’s first of nine claimed. Four $25,000 second-tier prizes and eight $10,000 winners also remain.
