Upper Marlboro woman claims prize won in Aug. 9 drawing
A Prince George’s County woman said she didn’t have to check her Pick 5 number for the Aug. 9 evening drawing. Instead, she received word from a friend that her numbers won. “My friend knows my numbers and she sent me a text and said, ‘Your numbers hit tonight!’ I couldn’t believe it.”
The federal government worker has played the same numbers for the past six months. The Upper Marlboro resident played 77770 as a $1 straight bet to win the $50,000 prize.
In addition to playing Pick 5, the winner is a mom and enjoys painting, drawing and doing physical fitness activities in her free time.
The lucky lady was still stunned about the win after claiming her prize and said she didn’t have any immediate spending plans. She started to brainstorm ideas while in the Lottery Winner’s Circle on Aug. 11, saying she is a big supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and also wants to help out family members using the windfall.
“I don’t know what I am going to do with it, but I want to share,” said the 53-year-old.
Happy to have sold a $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket is the lucky Lottery retailer, Bell’s Drive-in Liquors. The Prince George’s County business, located at 5901 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
