Happy player wins $50,000 third-tier prize in Oct. 21 drawing
A Western Maryland resident turned a $2 Powerball win into a $50,000 third-tier prize in the Powerball drawing held on Monday, Oct. 21.
The construction worker was on the way to his job site the previous day and stopped at Luke’s Liquors, located at 435 North Third Street in Oakland, to buy Lottery games. He had a $2 winning Powerball ticket, so he cashed that game in and bought a $2 quick-pick ticket for the next drawing. He put away his games and headed to work.
The next day, the Garrett County player went to another local retailer to check his games for a win. When he scanned that $2 quick-pick ticket, he enjoyed a pleasant surprise. The message revealed that the lucky guy was a $50,000 winner, which meant he matched four white balls and the Powerball for the third-tier prize. He grabbed a copy of the winning numbers and hurried home to show his wife.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said the big winner. “I almost won the jackpot, just one number off.”
At home, the loyal player showed the ticket to his wife and she also checked the winning numbers.
“He was so excited that he made himself sick,” said the wife, who accompanied the winner to Lottery headquarter to claim the prize. The happy husband plans to invest his $50,000 windfall.
The winning numbers from the drawing on Monday, October 21 were 1, 25, 57, 62, 64 and the Powerball was 15. The winner had 47 instead of 57. “I was so close,” he said.
The lucky player scored one of 51 third-tier Powerball prizes won in Maryland in 2024.
