Baltimore County man is loyal player since 1973
A lifelong player from northern Baltimore County said he has enjoyed his share of Lottery games since the Maryland Lottery began in 1973. The happy man just won his first big prize of $50,000 in the Oct. 4 Bonus Match 5 drawing.
“I have been playing since the beginning. I used to buy my grandfather Lottery tickets,” said the retired government employee.
The loyal player found out about his win on Oct. 5 when he entered Margate BP in Lutherville. There was a conversation going on between the store clerk and customers that a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 ticket was sold at the store the previous evening.
At first, the 75-year-old didn’t give the conversation much thought, but then he started to wonder if he was the lucky winner since he had purchased a ticket there for the Oct. 4 drawing.
“I didn’t think it was me but the more I thought about it, I decided I better check that ticket,” he said with a laugh. Indeed, the lucky player won the top prize.
The winner and his wife want to use the windfall to replace their HVAC system and take a vacation. The husband said he also plans to purchase a custom-made San Francisco 49ers jersey since that is his favorite professional football team.
Another winner is the Margate BP located at 1601 York Road in Baltimore County. Since the gas station sold a $50,000 top-prize winning ticket, the Lottery will give the Lutherville business a $500 bonus.
