Sixth Lottery Contestant of the Game to benefit from grand slam this season
All Timothy Jeffries of Glen Burnie wanted was for the Orioles to load the bases to create a grand slam opportunity. When he got his bases loaded wish, the Orioles delivered and made him the sixth Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game to have a grand slam hit this season in the Lottery’s FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded second-chance promotion.
The grand slam twist is a new addition to the 2024 version of the Home Run Riches second-chance promotion. Lottery players enter winning or non-winning FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded tickets into their My Lottery Rewards account. The Lottery selects one Contestant of the Game for each of the Orioles 162 regular-season games. Contestants receive $500 for being selected and $500 for each home run the Orioles hit in their designated game — unless the homer is a grand slam, which means a $5,000 prize instead. The final drawing for this season will take place on Aug. 27.
Timothy said he was home watching the July 31 game against the Toronto Blue Jays when the Orioles started making things interesting in the fifth inning as they had runners on first and second.
“I told my wife. I need a single, a walk, an infield hit. Anything to get the bases loaded,” Timothy said.
Then, Oriole Jordan Westburg was hit by a pitch to load the bases. That brought Orioles rookie Jackson Holliday to the plate. According to Timothy, he watched with a big smile as Holiday hit his first home run to right field.
“When he hit it to Eutaw Street, I jumped up and down a little bit,” said the Anne Arundel County resident.
Timothy has good luck with Home Run Riches as he won $500 instantly on the FAST PLAY game and now has a $6,000 second-chance prize. He plans to buy a bushel of crabs and will place the rest in the bank.
“It was kinda cool. They don’t hit grand slams every day,” he explained.
Tickets are $5, and the game features instant-win prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000 and a progressive jackpot top prize that starts at $40,000 and increases with the sale of each ticket until a jackpot-winner is sold.
