Glen Burnie’s Rufino Altamirano-Jarquin is the 19th top-prize winner in the $50,000 Cash game since it went on sale Dec. 29.
Skeptical winner triple-checked his win
Rufino Altamirano-Jarquin of Glen Burnie told Lottery officials that he was in shock when he won the top prize on a $50,000 Cash scratch-off.
“I had to scan the ticket three times to make sure it was real,” Rufino said. “Then, I called my cousin to tell him that I won.”
The Anne Arundel County man, who is a regular scratch-off player, said he won $1,000 a few years ago, but never as much as $50,000.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was happy,” Rufino added.
The 39-year-old works as an installer. He hasn’t decided yet how he will spend his big prize.
He purchased his $20 instant ticket at 7-Eleven #32909 on 6930 Aviation Boulevard in Glen Burnie. All Lottery retailers that sell top-prize winning scratch-offs of $20,000 or more receive a 1% bonus. The Anne Arundel County retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in Rufino’s record win.
The $50,000 Cash went on sale on Dec. 29 with 160 top prizes of $50,000. Rufino is the 19th top-prize winner and 141 $50,000 prizes remain. There are also more than 970,000 unclaimed prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
