Halethorpe Resident Wins $100,000 Crossword Top Prize

Baltimore City retailer sells game’s seventh top-prize winning ticket

A Baltimore County woman who described herself as an avid Maryland Lottery player said she occasionally has taken home small prizes in the past. But she had a considerably better outcome recently in the form of a $100,000 top prize on the $100,000 Crossword scratch-off ticket.

The Halethorpe resident often visits Pop’s Liquors and Grocery located at 2320 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore City. On one recent visit, she was the only customer in the store and opted for a $10 $100,000 Crossword ticket and began playing the game.

She didn’t win any prizes on any of the ticket’s four Bonus Words or on either of the first two Puzzles. But it was a different story on Puzzle 3, where she was able to form 10 words to land one of the ticket’s $100,000 top prizes.

Not being completely sure of what she was seeing, she asked the store clerk to scan her ticket. It was then confirmed that she was a $100,000 winner. Although there was no one else around, she still kept her response reserved. She did tell a few friends and family, and added that she has no plans for her winnings except to help family friends.

Pop’s Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus for being the lucky retailer that sold a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $100,000.

The $100,000 Crossword ticket was launched in June of 2024 and began with 10 $100,000 top-prizes. There are still three of those top prizes remaining unclaimed along with seven second-tier prizes of $10,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
