Edgewood woman brings home $50,000 top prize on exciting instant ticket
A Harford County woman bagged a haunting scratch-off win on Halloween. At the urging of her daughter, she bought two GAME OF THRONES™* scratch-offs and won a $50,000 top prize on one of the instant tickets.
The mom of three was leaving the hospital after visiting with one of her children when good fortune gave her a Halloween treat. On the way home, she and her daughter stopped at the Express Mart, which houses Rosedale Shell and Dunkin’. After leaving Dunkin’, the two visited Express Mart.
“My daughter saw the scratch-offs and urged me to get one,” said the occasional player. “She pointed at the GAME OF THRONES ticket and said, ‘You should get this one.’”
The Edgewood resident purchased the two scratch-offs and, instead of revealing the play areas, only scratched off their prize check areas so she could scan the instant tickets. The first one was not a winner, but the second scratch-off had a different message.
“It said, ‘Congratulations, you’ve won $50,000,’” recalled the winner, smiling when she shared her story with Lottery officials. “I turned to my daughter and said, ‘Did we really just win this?’”
The married player chose not to share her news just yet. She wanted to claim the prize first and now will surprise her family with the good news. The lucky lady said the winnings will go toward medical bills, household needs and the holidays.
For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, the Baltimore County retailer receives a Lottery bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize.
This scratch-off went on sale in September with six $50,000 top prizes; four remain, along with other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000. The instant ticket, ranked 11th on the Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-offs list, also has a second-chance promotion. Players who enter non-winning GAME OF THRONES scratch-offs into their My Lottery Rewards account could win a trip to Napa Valley, California for the chance to play THE SEVEN KINGDOMS EXPERIENCE and win their share of up to $7 million in cash prizes.
