Game delivers big prize to dedicated player in Aug. 15 drawing
An Aberdeen grandfather is in awe after winning a $50,000 top prize playing Bonus Match 5, one of his favorite games. The happy player enjoys playing Bonus Match 5, Cash4Life and the national jackpot games daily.
The big winner has a routine. His day begins with breakfast and then he heads to one of his favorite Lottery retailers to play his games. Back in August, the Lottery fan visited Klein’s ShopRite in Aberdeen. Among the games he bought that day was a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket. Following his routine, he waited until the evening to check his tickets for a win on the Lottery’s website. What a surprise when he saw matching numbers!
“I knew it was a winner,” said the excited grandfather, smiling. “But, I took it back to the store the next day to have them take a look, too.”
The cashier confirmed the retired maintenance worker’s suspicions that he had matched five numbers to win the $50,000 top prize in the Aug. 15 drawing.
“She looked at me and told me to go to Baltimore to claim it,” said the happy player.
The Harford County resident shared his great news with family members and his daughters assisted him with the prize-claiming process. One of them accompanied the big winner to claim the prize this week at Lottery headquarters.
“We definitely went over the winning numbers to make sure it was a winner,” she said to Lottery officials. “He was right and here we are.”
The loyal player said he has no immediate plans for his small fortune. However, he does intend to continue his daily Lottery routine!
The man’s lucky retailer is celebrating, too. Klein’s ShopRite located at 949 Beards Hill Road in Aberdeen, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket. In 2024, the Lottery has sold 27 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets.
