Pair of Bel Air retirees win big with 50X The Cash game
A husband’s $10 good deed to brighten his wife’s day led to a $100,000 scratch-off win for the pair of retirees.
“My husband goes to the store for us all the time,” said “Oliveen,” the Bel Air winner. “As a surprise, he will bring me back some scratch-offs to play because he knows I love them.”
His routine led to “Oliveen” receiving a 50X The Cash instant ticket from Macphail Exxon in Bel Air. After scratching off the $10 instant ticket, the 68-year-old said she couldn’t believe what she saw. “Oliveen” returned to the Lottery retailer with other scratch-offs that she knew were non-winners and scanned them all first. She then scanned the 50X The Cash instant ticket, and the scanner read, “Congratulations, $100,000 Winner.”
“Oliveen” ran back home and gave the scratch-off to her husband. He took five seconds to review it, looked up with a smile and said, calmly, “Yeah, you’re a winner.”
Her heart was still racing when the happy player called her three sons to make the win a family affair.
“Two of my boys were very laid back about my big win, like my husband, but my oldest yelled out over the phone. It’s all been very exciting,” said “Oliveen.” The 21-year Maryland Lottery player says she is looking forward to playing scratch-off games for years to come.
“Oliveen” plans to use her prize to purchase a new roof for her home and pay off some credit card bills. If she has funds left over, she will share them with her sons.
The 50X The Cash scratch-off launched with a family of “X” Multiplier games on Jan. 18. The five games offer “xtra xciting” ways to win instant prizes of up to $1 million and second-chance prizes of up to $50,000. This game has many instant prizes available for future winners to find including eight $100,000 top prizes, 11 unclaimed $50,000 prizes and more than 525,000 prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.
“Oliveen’s” luck helps her favorite Harford County Lottery retailer, too. Macphail Exxon located at 600 West Macphail Road in Bel Air will receive $1,000 for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $100,000.
