Husband Delivers Ramen Soup and $30,000 Scratch-off Win to Wife

Holiday purchase leads to top prize on Loteria game

Buying scratch-offs to play during the holidays is a longtime family tradition for an Anne Arundel County couple. Although he primarily plays Powerball, Mega Millions and Cash4Life, the husband will sometimes add scratch-offs to his purchases during the merry season.

His Lottery routine is to let his purchased tickets and scratch-offs pile up. The loyal player will then visit a Lottery retailer where he can check the games for a win at his leisure. Sometime during the holiday season, he stopped at Davidsonville BP in Anne Arundel County and bought a $3 Loteria™ scratch-off.

The resident of a small town near Annapolis said there came a night recently that his tickets had piled up and he wanted to check them for a win.

So, he sat down at home and began checking the games for prizes. The first four games yielded no wins. The fifth scratch-off was a $10 winner. The former military officer then revealed a $30 winner and another non-winner. All that was left was the Loteria game, which revealed a top prize of $30,000 to the astonished player.

“I checked them again,” he said, examining the games in the same order and got the same results. His wife was in the kitchen so he called to her, “Honey, you need to come here.” Being a scratch-off novice, she thought the Loteria game indicated they “could win” $30,000 but not that they “had won.”

The curious husband took the games to a nearby 7-Eleven and had a clerk he knows scan them for a win. When the scanner confirmed the $30,000 score, the clerk “was happier than I was,” the husband said. “I cashed the two tickets and brought her home ramen soup. I came home with $17.” He also had the $30,000 winning scratch-off in hand.

This top-prize win sets a new personal record for the pair, who work in the hospitality field. “We hit 50 bucks a while back and thought it was a big deal,” said the husband.

He plans to visit the site of his lucky purchase and share the great news with the retailer. Davidsonville BP located at 551 West Central Avenue will also receive a $300 Lottery bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off valued at $30,000. As for the Loteria game, it remains packed with prizes. There are five more top prizes available along with others ranging from $3 to $5,000. Loteria went on sale in December 2023.
