Itchy Palm Delivers $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Baltimore woman takes home Lots of Cash game’s top prize

While she buys instant tickets regularly, a Baltimore City employee told Lottery officials, she wasn’t planning to do so last Wednesday. Something changed her mind, however. The reason she bought a Lots of Cash scratch-off that day will have many labeling her superstitious, but the $50,000 that it produced should quiet any teasing.

“I’ve been playing for a long time, a couple of tickets a week, maybe, and always $5 games.” She explained her preference, citing both the cost — as much as she wants to spend on a scratch-off — and only the games that have top prizes big enough to be exciting. These were the reasons she chose the $5 Lots of Cash scratch-off when an itchy palm prompted her to visit the Baltimore Service Center at 2341 East Monument Street in Baltimore.

The “itchy palm” legend is a familiar one with Lottery officials, but not one heard very often. “An itchy palm means money is coming your way,” our winner proclaimed. She certainly did see that happen!

“When I saw the $50,000 match, I was sure it was fake. There’s no way it could be real.” Upon asking the cashier to confirm what her disbelieving eyes were seeing, he told her the instant ticket’s top prize was real. “He said, ‘Take this home right now!’”

The lucky player does not yet have plans for her Lots of Cash winnings. “I still can’t believe this is real. What a blessing.”

Lots of Cash debuted in mid-June with eight $50,000 top prizes. This Baltimore win is the first top prize claimed. Thirteen of the game’s 14 $5,000 second-tier prizes remain available along with others ranging from $5 to $1,000. Also getting lots of cash is the Baltimore Service Center, which will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.
