Lucky Gaithersburg woman takes home $50,000 prize
Another $50,000 top prize on the $50,000 Cash scratch-off game is claimed, this time by a lucky Montgomery County woman. The 40-year-old purchased just one instant ticket last week and scratched her way to the big prize.
The restaurant employee said she was out running errands when she stopped in a 7-Eleven in Rockville. The $20 blue scratch-off, $50,000 Cash, caught her eye and she decided to buy one of them. She played the game there in the store.
“I saw I had the matching number, but I couldn’t believe the prize amount I saw,” said the happy winner. “I asked the cashier to check to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.”
The mother of four was indeed seeing correctly. She was holding a $50,000 winning instant ticket. The lucky lady left the store and went home to share the news with her family. When claiming her prize this week, she expressed how much the windfall will help.
“We’ve been struggling a little bit and we really need this,” she said, smiling. “It’s such a blessing for our family.”
The Gaithersburg player shared with Lottery Officials that she will use her winnings to help in her household, to pay bills and plans to save what might be left.
The fortunate winner purchased the popular scratch-off at the 7-11 #33250, located at 9900 Key West Avenue in Rockville. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket, the Baltimore County retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
The $20 $50,000 Cash scratch-off game, that went on sale in December, began with 160 $50,000 top prizes, there are currently 148 remaining. There are also more than $1 million unclaimed prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
