A Cash Boom scratch-off caught the eye of this New York City resident, who tried his luck and won a $50,000 top prize.
New York couple can add scratch-off prize to house fund
A New York City couple love Maryland so much they have visited multiple times, and are currently house hunting in this tough seller’s market. That search will certainly be a bit easier for Juan Infante and his wife, now that they won a $50,000 top prize on a Cash Boom scratch-off he bought in Baltimore City.
“Maryland’s doing a great job,” he said, laughing, noting that the state is making the couple feel very welcome. “This is a down payment!”
A longtime scratch-off player in New York, he favors crossword-themed games and decided to try his luck at Sam’s Lobby Shop in Baltimore City while on a recent visit. “I walked into the store to play a crossword scratch-off,” he said. “That ticket (Cash Boom) caught my eye but I played the crossword.”
After not winning on the initial ticket, he tried his luck again and came up with a $10 prize. That’s when he added a $5 Cash Boom scratch-off to the mix.
“It revealed three vaults,” he said. “I thought it was $50, so I scanned it. Then I saw all the zeros!”
He asked the store owner where he could cash the $50,000 top-prize winner and that’s when the celebration began. A photo of the winning scratch-off is now on display at the store, Juan said. For its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Sam’s Lobby Shop at 10 North Calvert Street earns a $500 Lottery bonus.
A longtime bartender, Juan is already a solid Baltimore Orioles fan and was wearing a Ravens cap during his visit to claim his prize. In fact, he has become such a big Ravens fan he may get tickets to the playoff game Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said.
The Cash Boom game went on sale in September 2023 and still has three $50,000 top prizes remaining along with more than 300,000 prizes ranging from $10 to $5,000. It is one of 19 $5 scratch-offs now on sale.
