Gold Rush 7s Tripler scratch-off dishes out top-prize tip
A Baltimore County woman found the perfect way to fill the time during a quiet stretch at work earlier this week. She thought the scratch-offs in her purse, which she had planned to play that evening, would keep her busy as she and her restaurant co-workers awaited the lunch rush. Happily, the games included a $5 Gold Rush 7s Tripler instant ticket. And even better, that particular scratch-off hid a $50,000 top prize.
“My son and I are sort of a Lottery team,” the happy winner explained. “Whenever I am buying tickets, I check to see if he wants some and he checks for me.” Mom was on the receiving end this time. Her son dropped off the instant tickets that very morning, ones that he had purchased from the Beer-Wine-Liquor Depot in Catonsville.
It was random luck that put the winning Gold Rush 7s Tripler scratch-off in her hands. “Whichever one of us is doing the buying picks the games,” she told Lottery officials. “I had no control over the games I got.”
When she saw the matching number that delivered her $50,000 prize, the Woodlawn woman found herself unable to speak. “I was thinking to myself, ‘I think I just won.’” Preferring to keep her good news to herself, she had to stifle her reaction until the shift was over. “It was a tough thing to do. I found it very hard to keep my mind on work while thinking about the $50,000.”
The loyal player was finally able to celebrate when she arrived home. “You should have seen how happy my son was when I told him.” While she has no plans for her winnings, from now on she does plan to let her son pick all of the games the duo plays.
This Gold Rush 7s Tripler top-prize win was the fifth since the game’s debut in May. Along with the three remaining $50,000-winning scratch-offs, the game has four $5,000 second-tier winners still out there along with prizes of $5 to $1,000. The lucky Beer-Wine-Liquor Depot located at 5860 Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.
