Anne Arundel County woman is former jackpot player
A Laurel resident who has played Powerball and Mega Millions in the past decided to try her luck on the computer-animated Racetrax game. She purchased a $24 quick-pick ticket on Oct. 16 and had beginner’s luck, winning $36,400.
“This was my first time playing. I thought I would try something new,” she said with a smile.
The lucky lady placed a $1 Superfecta Box bet with four horses and the terminal picked the winning numbers of 3, 7, 9 and 10. She added that she likes odd numbers so she was excited when she saw the 3, 7 and 9 printed on her one-draw ticket.
To win with a Superfecta Box bet, a player selects at least four horses to cross the finish line together in any order. The number of wagers for one race is equal to the number of all possible combinations based on the total number of horses, which is why her four-horse selection equaled 24 bets on one race.
The Anne Arundel County resident works as a clerk at a gas station. While she is undecided on how she will spend her winnings, the happy woman said the funds will probably go toward paying bills.
Winning such a large prize may have made her a Racetrax convert. “I might try it again,” she said. “This was a lot of fun.”
She purchased the winning ticket at Brock Bridge BP located at 3581 Fort Meade Road in Laurel. For selling a winning ticket of $10,000 or more, the Laurel gas station will receive a bonus of $364 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
