Local Retailer Serves Up Fries Plus Winning Scratch-off

Loyal Baltimore player wins $50,000 on Money Rush instant ticket

A South Baltimore City man had a hankering for some Royal Farms potato wedges last week, so he headed to the store in Dundalk to satisfy his craving. Little did he know, his culinary encounter would lead to a $50,000 scratch-off win.

The retired ice cream factory manager couldn’t wait to indulge in one of his favorite treats at the Royal Farms store located at 7701 German Hill Road last week. He purchased the potato wedges and decided to sit at the counter to enjoy them instead of going to his car like he usually does. As he chowed down, a feeling came over him that he should buy scratch-offs.

“I had a $20 bill, so I decided on a Ravens X10 ticket and Money Rush game,” said the Lottery fan. He won $20 on the Ravens X10 instant ticket, put it aside and continued eating and scratching. But something was peculiar with the Money Rush instant ticket.

“I looked at it, but I wasn’t paying full attention to it,” said the winner. “Then, I thought, ‘What did I just see?’ and I looked at it a second time.”

What the fortunate player spotted was a $50,000 prize! On the first line of the game, he matched one of the winning numbers and the prize beneath was $50,000. To be sure he was correct, the player scanned the scratch-off and confirmed the win.

The shocked man then went to another Lottery retailer to have his scratch-off scanned to verify the win. The cashier solidified his suspicions by saying, “Whoa, I can’t cash that here.”

Excited, the winner went home to share the news with a few family members and friends. While in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters, the player told Lottery officials that he plans to pay bills with his winnings, purchase a newer vehicle and add the rest to his retirement fund.

The Money Rush instant ticket went on sale in July with 11 $50,000 second-tier prizes; eight remain. Seven $100,000 top prizes are still waiting to be found as well as 23 $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
