Lucky couple claim top prize on $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off
An Upper Marlboro couple, who have enjoyed playing the Lottery together for over a decade, visited Maryland Lottery headquarters March 14 to claim a $100,000 top prize from the $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off game.
Choosing to remain anonymous under the fitting moniker “For Lifers,” the pair shared that playing scratch-offs has been a fun tradition throughout their relationship. For the past 10 years, they’ve taken turns each week purchasing different scratch-off games, always splitting the winnings equally. While they’ve enjoyed moderate success over the years, both admitted they had always dreamed of hitting a major prize — and now that dream has become a reality.
The winning ticket was purchased by the wife, who said she was drawn to the game for its multiple top prizes and bonus prize potential. But, nothing could have prepared them for what was to come.
“When we realized it was a winning ticket, we were in a total state of shock,” she shared. “As dedicated players, we each used the My Lottery Rewards app to check the ticket multiple times — on both of our phones — because we just couldn’t believe it.”
Even now, as they claim their prize, the “For Lifers” admit it still feels surreal.
When asked how they plan to use their newfound windfall, the couple said they are taking a practical approach. “We haven’t had too much time to think about it, but we plan to pay some bills and save as much as we can.”
As for their Lottery-playing future, the “For Lifers” say this big win won’t change their weekly ritual. “No need to change what works for us — plus, we really enjoy playing. In fact, I’ll probably stop at the store where I bought this ticket and grab a few more on our way home.”
The $30 $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off game launched in September 2023 with 60 top prizes, and still has 49 remaining. In addition, hundreds of thousands of other cash prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000 are still available.
Osborne Liquors at 7603 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro can also celebrate. The Prince Georges County business gets to collect a $1,000 Lottery bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $100,000.
