Winner brought to tears after discovering prize
The stars aligned last month for a fortunate Baltimore resident who has played the Lottery for more than 15 years. He struck gold in the May 20 Pick 5 midday drawing, clinching a $50,000 windfall to enrich his life.
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, selected the nickname “Mr. J” to share the story of his recent Pick 5 surprise.
This game, with two drawings a day, joined the Lottery lineup in February 2022. It offers players a chance to win using five numbers they select themselves or let the terminal pick for them. “Mr. J” said he has played the same number — 80000 — on his Pick 5 tickets for as long as he can remember. He bought his lucky $1 ticket at Cross 10 Grocery in Baltimore, placing a $1 straight bet that 80000 would be drawn.
“Mr. J” woke up from a nap to check the midday drawing’s winning numbers on his phone and was shocked to read 80000. He recalls feeling overcome with emotion and breaking down in tears because this windfall arrived at the “perfect time.” “Mr. J” added, “Times are hard for most people these days. I have a little relief now.”
From the day he started playing Lottery games, “Mr. J” reports always believing he would win big. The loyal player plans to pay bills with his windfall and treat his mother and sister to something nice because they’ve always supported him.
“Mr. J” is not alone in winning. Baltimore’s Cross 10 Grocery, located at 1039 South Charles Street, will receive a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 prize-winning ticket.
