Baltimore resident will spend winnings to buy first home
An anonymous Baltimore resident, nicknaming himself “Baby D,” turned up at Lottery headquarters this week with a big smile after winning a $50,000 top prize on his first attempt playing Bonus Match 5. “Baby D” won big in the Nov. 3 drawing.
The lucky player considers himself a rookie because he started playing the Lottery a few months ago. Some of his friends and family members recently shared their Lottery experiences, citing the success and fun they had playing. He then started playing games every now and then when he had a few extra bucks in his pocket.
When “Baby D” bought a $2 Bonus Match 5 quick-pick ticket for the drawing, he hoped to win back at least his $2 investment. “I didn’t realize it at first, when it (the equipment scanner) said I won I thought I won $20,” he said. The clerk, however, verified the top-prize win of $50,000.
“Baby D” plans put his earnings to good use. He told Lottery officials he hopes to use some of the money to buy his first house and will put the rest in investments.
His lucky retailer also shares in the fun. For selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, Nephew Mini Mart located at 3127 McElderry Street in Baltimore earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery. This is one of 29 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets sold in 2023.
