An enthusiastic Lottery player from Catonsville returned to his former workplace on Oct. 27 to claim a $50,000 prize on the $5 scratch-off game Hello Money!
The win brought him to Lottery headquarters in the historic Montgomery Business Park in Baltimore. Decades ago, the building was a warehouse for the A. Montgomery Ward chain of department stores, and the winner was employed there.
“I worked here for four or five years,” he said, reminiscing about his time at what would become Montgomery Park.
The winner has no special plans for his windfall and said it would be deposited in the bank. He and his wife, who accompanied him, aren’t planning any special celebrations either.
“Truthfully we’ve been celebrating pretty good lately,” he said, elaborating that he has had a run of good fortune, having won a series of smaller prizes in recent weeks and months. Winning prizes of $100 to $1,000 is one of the things that has kept him interested in playing over the years.
A Lottery regular, his main place to buy tickets is the Route 40 Sunoco at 5612 Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville, and that’s where he bought his $50,000 winning Hello Money! ticket. He speaks highly of the staff at the store and their attention to customer service is the reason he patronizes the shop. The store receives a $500 bonus for selling the ticket.
Asked when he would be back at Montgomery Park to claim another big prize, he said: “Hopefully after tonight’s drawing!”
