Michigan man claims 50 Years! instant ticket’s final top prize
Although the Maryland Lottery celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, the observance had its last hurrah on Aug. 15 when a player claimed the final remaining $5 million top prize on 50 Years!, which was an anniversary-related scratch-off.
An anonymous Michigan player from a rural community west of Grand Rapids, who is half the age of the Maryland Lottery, purchased the big scratch-off at 2 Go Convenience & Deli in Savage.
The instant ticket was the first Maryland Lottery game at the $50 price point. The game proved very popular, topping the Lottery’s Top 40 list of scratch-offs for months after its February 2023 release. As of this week, it remained at the number 8 spot, even as another $50 instant ticket, $5,000,000 Cash, sits at the number 3 spot.
Although the claiming of the final top prize means the game will soon close out, substantial prizes remain unclaimed, including one at the $100,000 level and six at the $10,000 level. The other two $5,000,000 prizes claimed on the 50 Years! instant ticket were won on scratch-offs sold in Lanham and the Eastern Shore community of Willards.
For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, 2 Go Convenience & Deli receives a Lottery bonus of $5,000. The Howard County business is located at 9016 Washington Boulevard in Savage.
