Prince George’s County man uses special numbers for big win
Numbers that a Prince George’s County resident has been playing for the past few months just paid off to the tune of $50,000. The doting great-grandfather’s good fortune came last week when he purchased Pick 5 tickets for the Sept. 4 drawing.
The player just recently switched from playing his Lottery Pick games from another state to Maryland. Good thing he did!
Last week, he stopped at Modern Liquors in Temple Hills to play his number: 91925. He bought two Pick 5 tickets, placing a $1 straight bet and a $1 box bet for the midday and evening drawings. Lady luck showed up for the midday drawing.
“I check my games twice a day, sitting at home,” said the winner. “I know my numbers and knew I hit right away.”
The lucky player hit on both tickets, $800 on the boxed play and $50,000 on the straight bet. After his shock subsided, he shared the news with his wife and one of his daughters.
“My wife asked how much she’ll get,” he said, grinning.
The veteran, who has a special place in his heart for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, already knew how he’ll spend his winnings.
“I’m going to take care of my grandkids, as needed,” he told Lottery officials when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He also plans to donate some of the prize to his church.
Also celebrating is Modern Liquors located at 2358 Iverson Street in Temple Hills. The Prince George’s County business will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling the $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
