Montgomery County man plays multiple times a week
Powerball jackpot fever continues to hit the nation and a Silver Spring man is happy to join in on the fun. He won $50,000 by matching four of the five numbers plus the Powerball for the Oct. 24 drawing.
The lucky winner said he is a loyal Powerball player. The 37-year-old typically buys tickets for all three weekly drawings regardless of the size of the jackpot. This is the first time he has won a significant prize.
“I was excited. Fifty grand is a lot of money,” said the Montgomery County resident. “It is fun to play. Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you are not. It happened to be my day.”
He explained that he always checks his tickets the next day at his local Lottery retailer, but forgot to check this $2 quick-pick ticket until a few days later.
“The one time I don’t check and it is a winner,” he said, laughing. He found his Lottery luck at the Food Mart Citgo, which is located at 11901 Business Park Drive in Waldorf.
A countertop installer, the winner said he does not have plans for the money other than saving it. He is newly divorced and said the prize will help him move forward in life. “I am starting my life over and this is a good start,” he said.
The next Powerball drawing is Saturday, Nov. 5. The Powerball jackpot has increased to an estimated world record annuity of $1.6 billion or an estimated cash value of $782.4 million.
