Columbia woman wins $50,000 playing Lucky Numbers
An intensive care nurse looking for a way to unwind after a long shift wound up with a startling discovery a few weeks ago. The Howard County resident’s plans for relaxation went awry — in a good way — when she won a $50,000 prize on a FAST PLAY Lucky Numbers game.
The 32-year-old told Maryland Lottery officials that she has worked long shifts in an area hospital since COVID-19 illnesses appeared in Maryland. For a bit of fun and relaxation, she occasionally seeks out some Lottery “therapy.” The healthcare worker certainly had that in mind when she stopped at Food Lion #2517 at 2655 Annapolis Road in Hanover.
The loyal player selected the $10 Lucky Numbers ticket and quickly began searching the game’s numbers for a match. At first, none appeared. The Columbia resident gazed at the ticket, looking from the top to the bottom, before spotting a match with the game’s Lucky Number bonus spot. The prize next to the match was $50,000!
“Being a nurse in a COVID ICU is a stressful job,” she said. “I just want to make sure all the nurses out there know there is hope” for better days. Her Lottery luck is a tangible example of hope for better days coming true.
The lucky nurse said she doesn’t have any immediate plans for her prize. In fact, just knowing she was a winner is still quite a shock, she told Lottery officials.
The Lucky Numbers game joined the FAST PLAY lineup in February 2020, offering players a chance to win prizes from $10 to $50,000 or a progressive jackpot. Progressive jackpots start at $100,000 and grow until a player buys a winning ticket. This game has 25 progressive jackpots awaiting discovery along with 36 remaining $50,000 prizes and 49 remaining $10,000 prizes.
