‘Lucky Feeling’ Proves True for Silver Spring Man

Wins $50,000 prize scratching Gold Rush 777 instant ticket

A Montgomery County resident made his first visit to Lottery headquarters last week, a trip that, he told Lottery officials, is one he expects to make every time he buys a ticket. The longtime scratch-off fan was there to claim the biggest prize he’s ever won — $50,000.

“To be honest, I have a lucky feeling whenever I buy a ticket,” the data analyst joked when asked if a lucky feeling caused him to buy the Gold Rush 777 game last week. The anonymous winner stopped at Columbia Road Exxon while running errands, picking out his scratch-off because he’d not seen the $20 instant ticket before. “There’s something about new games,” he said. “They always feel extra lucky to me.”

When asked about his reaction to uncovering a $50,000 win in the Exxon parking lot, the Silver Spring man said, “My wife and I have not been on a proper vacation for so many years.  It really is overdue. A vacation was the very first thing I thought of.”

Columbia Road Exxon, which sold our winner his ticket to this dream vacation, is located at 12601 Old Columbia Road in Silver Spring. Gold Rush 777 joined the Lottery’s scratch-off catalog in late May. Three of its four $1 million top prizes are still in circulation, along with five more $50,000 winners and 84 $10,000 winners.
