Owings Mills woman claims $40,000 prize on 8-spot wager
A Baltimore County woman has consistently played the same Keno numbers for a year with nary a big win in sight. Her “lucky” birth dates hadn’t brought home any large prizes so the Owings Mills resident pledged to quit playing if she didn’t win soon. Her wait for a win ended on Feb. 26, when she hit for $40,000 on an 8-spot Keno bet.
The 59-year-old bought her lucky ticket at Royal Farms #140 located at 10988 Red Run Boulevard in Owings Mills. She added the bonus to her ticket and picked the numbers 7, 11, 12, 16, 17, 21, 25 and 27. After spending $20 for 10 drawings, she had a bite to eat and watched the Keno drawings on the store monitor.
Her excitement began building when she saw that the game had revealed matches with four of her numbers. She then hoped to match at least five numbers. Once that happened, she couldn’t believe that she would get any more matches but two more came. That’s when she really became antsy.
“I was afraid to look, because I didn’t want to jinx myself,” the lucky lady said. When she did and saw her final match appear, she remembers exclaiming, “Oh my God.” Her initial 8-spot bet gave her a $10,000 prize and the Bonus multiplier of 4 made it $40,000. She is still considering plans for her lucky windfall.
Her Lottery retailer also wins. Royal Farms #140 receives a $400 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a winning Keno ticket worth $40,000. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
