Eastern Shore co-workers score third-tier win in Oct. 9 drawing
A group of 25 players nicknamed the “Ocean City Medical Group” recently got a huge surprise in the Oct. 9 Powerball drawing. They won $50,000! “I still really can’t believe we won,” a representative for the group said while claiming the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
On Oct. 9, the group tasked the co-worker to buy Powerball tickets for the team of players. Excited and feeling lucky, she rushed to a Lottery retailer called Your Store, located at 10137 Old Ocean City Boulevard in Berlin, to buy quick-pick tickets. She usually buys Lottery tickets from Food Lion but noted, “A change in routine really paid off for once.”
The group has played the Lottery for almost three years and this is the first big win. The representative, who plays Powerball and Mega Millions, reports that her group never misses a chance to play both games.
The lucky lady said she has no major plans for her share of the prize, which will all go into savings or a nice night out with her family. She’s unsure how others in the group will spend their winnings. The Wicomico County resident said, joking, “Maybe we’ll put all the money back into playing so we can win more.”
There’s still time to get Powerball tickets for the Wednesday, Nov. 1 drawing. The estimated jackpot annuity is $152 million with an estimated cash option of $66.8 million.
