Western Maryland resident wins big with $100,000 Lucky game
A Frederick County man experienced a particularly lucky New Year’s Eve, kicking off 2022 with a $100,000 top prize courtesy of a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. While on the way to New Year’s Eve festivities, the 53-year-old scratched off a $30 Maryland Lottery instant ticket and won the $100,000 Lucky game’s top prize.
The Brunswick resident said he and his girlfriend had made a quick stop at Sheetz #176 in Frederick County to purchase his weekly scratch-offs. He selected a few different games and scratched them while walking back to the parking lot. He had almost made it to his car when one of the instant tickets stopped him in his tracks. He won $100,000!
After a quick high-five with his girlfriend, the player drove the couple to their destination to celebrate ending 2021 on a high note. Although his winning moment was vivid, the scratch-off fan told Lottery officials that as New Year’s Day dawned, he checked the scratch-off several times “to make sure this wasn’t some sort of funny dream.”
The loyal player said he plans to save his winnings, but added that a good portion of the prize would go toward college tuition for his two children.
His lucky Lottery retailer also has reason to celebrate. Sheetz #176 located at 3842 Burkittsville Road in Knoxville earned a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $100,000 Lucky game joined the Lottery’s lineup of scratch-offs in September, offering players prizes from $30 to $5,000 and 65 top prizes of $100,000. With this win, the game now has 55 $100,000 top prizes remaining.
