Prince George’s County woman wins $50,000 top prize
A federal government contractor who visited Lottery headquarters last week to collect a $50,000 prize told officials that scratch-offs have always been her favorite, so much so that she added them to her lunchtime routine on work days. A $5 Big Money instant ticket brought the Prince George’s County resident to Baltimore.
“I don’t go out for lunch every day, but when I do, I stop somewhere and get a Lottery ticket,” said the 62-year-old. “I bring the tickets home to play after dinner. It’s fun thinking about what I’d do if I ever hit a big prize. It makes the afternoon in the office go so much faster for me.”
Three weeks ago, her lunchtime purchase at Gem Liquors in Lanham turned into an after-dinner stunner. “I picked Big Money randomly and really had few expectations, just hoping to win my money back.” That and a whole lot more were revealed to her when she scratched off the prize under the only match she found on her scratch-off. “I didn’t know what to do at first. I had to remind myself to take a breath.”
The Big Money game debuted in March with eight $50,000 top prizes. This top-prize win is the game’s fifth. Along with the three remaining top prizes, five $5,000 second-tier winners remain available along with other prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
Congratulations also go to Gem Liquors, located at 9443 Annapolis Road in Lanham. The Prince George’s County retailer earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
