Claim top prize on $100,000 Crossword game
A husband and wife team from Laurel have a special system when it comes to playing Lottery games and entering second-chance promotions. However, this time, it was the wife who bought a scratch-off that delivered their big win.
The lucky woman loves My Lottery Rewards and enjoys entering tickets into second-chance promotions to win prizes. Her husband enjoys playing scratch-offs. So, when he has non-winning instant tickets, he brings them to his wife to enter into the player loyalty rewards program.
On the day of their big win, the wife was out shopping with her mother at Food Lion in Scaggsville when she noticed a man standing at one of the Lottery vending machines. The lucky lady considered asking for his non-winning scratch-offs, but instead chose to purchase her own instant tickets.
She selected two of the $10 $100,000 Crossword games and knew that if they were non-winners, she’d enter them into a promotion. After revealing the prize check area and scanning the two instant tickets for a win, one game had a “weird” message, recalled the wife.
“It said to ‘See the retailer.’ I was afraid something was wrong,” she said. “But, then I scratched the whole ticket and saw that I had 10 words for a $100,000 win!”
The happy player went straight home to share the news with her husband.
“She said, ‘We have a problem, I bought a ticket,’” said the husband, smiling at the memory. “And, right away, I knew she won.”
She showed him the winning instant ticket and, together, they went over the game one word at a time to confirm the big prize. The winning grandparents, when claiming the windfall, told Lottery officials that their good fortune is right on time. The wife is a caregiver for her mother, so some of the winnings will go toward medical bills, she said. And, they noted that a portion will be spent on the upcoming holidays to benefit their children and grandchildren.
Sharing in the celebration is the Scaggsville retailer that sold the winning instant ticket. Food Lion #2501 located at 8300 Ice Crystal Drive in Howard County will receive a $1,000 Lottery bonus for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $100,000 Crossword game, now in its 8th edition, went on sale in June 2024 with 10 $100,000 top prizes; six remain. There are also 10 $10,000 prizes available in the game as well as a plethora of prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
