Mega Millions Rewards Fan’s Loyalty with $30,000 Prize

Third-tier win came in July drawing

A devotee of jackpot games visited Maryland Lottery headquarters this week for the second time in his life. As was the case two years ago, Mega Millions made the trip to the Lottery Winner’s Circle possible. The player’s $30,000 win from a mid-July drawing, combined with his earlier $40,000 prize, has cemented the multistate jackpot game as his favorite among the Lottery’s offerings.

“I buy a ticket for just about every Powerball, Mega Millions and Multi-Match drawing,” the federal employee told Lottery officials. “Once in a while, I may miss one of them (the drawings), but I will never ever forget to get a ticket on a Mega Millions night,” he promised with a smile.

The Prince George’s County resident attributes his Lottery routine for the time gap between winning and cashing in the lucky ticket. “I buy tickets for all three games each week, but I don’t check the results right away. I wait until I have a sizeable stack of them before I do.  Sometimes it’s not until three weeks after the drawing.”

Early this week, the loyal player stopped by a Lottery retailer to scan a month’s worth of tickets. “When I saw the readout for the Mega ticket, I had to do a double-take.” After scanning the July 19 ticket a second and third time, he was able to accept that the $30,000 win was real. He had bought a $3 quick-pick ticket for the drawing, adding the Megaplier in hopes of multiplying any win. That decision tripled his $10,000 prize.

“My wife and I have been focusing on our retirement recently,” he said. “This will go straight into that fund.”

Party Time Liquors at 3307 Rhode Island Avenue in Mt. Rainier sold the $30,000 winner. “Party Time will be my Mega Millions ticket location from now on,” the player promised. “Who knows, I’ve won twice now, maybe the third time will be the jackpot.”
