Mistake FAST PLAY Ticket Puts Traffic Manager on Road to Riches

A FAST PLAY ticket bought during a work break gave this construction crew manager a $50,000 prize.

Buys $50,000 winning ticket while on a break

Working on a road construction crew in the Brandywine area put Roderick Doughty of Glen Burnie in the right place at the right time to score a $50,000 top-prize FAST PLAY win. While on a break, the traffic manager visited the nearby Baden Grocery to buy Lottery games.

The loyal player, who favors jackpot games, Pick 3, Pick 4 and scratch-offs, was on a mission. “I just went in the store and I said ‘I’m going to play scratch-offs,’” he recalled.

Fortunately for him, the married father of two adult children hit the wrong button on the Lottery vending machine. Out came two $5 FAST PLAY Double Win tickets. The first ticket was not a winner but the second one, which he scanned at the store, carried the $50,000 top prize.

Roderick didn’t react to news of his big win but simply returned to work that day. “I was in a state of shock,” he said. Once he got home, the Anne Arundel County resident shared his great news with his family.

The grandfather of nine plans to spend much of the prize on a down payment for a house and will share some of the funds with extended family members. He is the fourth winner of a top prize in the Double Win game, which went on sale in July 2023. This game is packed with prizes that range from $5 to $50,000.

Also a winner is Baden Grocery located at 16709 Brandywine Road in Brandywine. The Prince George’s County retailer will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a top-prize winning FAST PLAY ticket of $20,000 to $99,999.
