Baltimore County residents take home a $150,000 Powerball win
The new year is starting off right for a mother and daughter from Baltimore County. They won a $150,000 third-tier Powerball prize in the very first drawing of 2025. What a way to begin 2025!
Back on Jan. 1, the mother of the duo was out and about and decided to stop at the High’s at 1075 Maiden Choice Lane in Arbutus to purchase Lottery tickets. Her daughter was home, but she made sure to get a few tickets for her also. One of those games was a $2 Quick Pick with the Power Play for an additional $1. Mom put the tickets away and went on about her day.
The week passed and Sunday arrived, the day they normally check their tickets. The mother pulled her tickets out and began scanning them. She was shocked when she came across the Powerball ticket. The message showed a $150,000 win.
“It blew me away with all the confetti and music,” said the mother. “It was very exciting.”
The daughter was sleep at the time and her mother ran to wake her up to share the news.
“I told her, “you hit, you hit, your ticket hit”, said the Halethorpe mom.
Still groggy from waking up, the daughter said, “what ticket”.
“It’s funny because I forgot all about that ticket,” she said. “It still does not seem real.”
The mother and daughter team matched four of the white balls and the red Powerball number, typically a $50,000 win. However, the drawing produced a X3 Power Play multiplier which increased their prize to $150,000. They missed a $178 Million prize by only one number. The ladies decided to split the big the prize.
The happy team claimed their prize this week. When speaking with officials at Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore, they shared that they are unsure what they will do with the winnings, but might use some towards a vacation.
The Powerball jackpot continues to grow. The Powerball jackpot for the drawing on Saturday, Jan. 18 stands at $331 million with an estimated cash option of $145.1 million.
