Excited winner plans to put her windfall in savings
An enthusiastic Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore County won $50,000 in the April 9 Bonus Match 5 drawing, becoming the 12th top-prize winner in the game in 2024. She plans to put her money into her savings account.
“I’m excited!” said the Nottingham winner, who is remaining anonymous. Her preference is for jackpot games like Powerball and Mega Millions, but she reports also enjoying other Lottery games.
Bonus Match 5 is a daily game, with winning numbers drawn each evening along with those for the Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 games. Bonus Match 5 has two main bonus features:
- The price of a single number combination is $1 but there’s a discount for buying in bulk; $2 buys three combinations, $3 buys four combinations, $4 buys six combinations, $5 buys seven and $6 buys nine combinations.
- Although the game involves matching five of the drawn balls, a sixth ball is drawn and becomes the Bonus Ball. Matching the first five balls drawn wins the $50,000 top prize, but matching four, three or two balls also generates a prize. The prize increases if four or three balls match along with the Bonus Ball, and two regular balls plus the Bonus Ball also pays a prize.
The winner bought seven quick-pick combinations for $5 for April 9 and 10. On the April 9 drawing, her sixth combination perfectly matched the first five balls drawn, scoring the top prize of $50,000.
She bought her winning ticket at Waterview Wine & Spirits Shop, which is located at 139 Orville Road in Essex. The business receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket.
