Olney Lottery Retailer Sells Ticket Worth $1,000 a Week for Life

Maryland Lottery seeks player who bought second-tier Cash4Life ticket

Collecting $1,000 a week — $52,000 a year — for life is about to become a reality for a Maryland Lottery player in Olney.

The player bought a ticket for the multi-state game Cash4Life on Oct. 9 at the 7-Eleven at 18120 Georgia Avenue and matched the first five balls that were selected in that night’s drawing to secure a second-tier win. The player, who has 182 days from the drawing to claim the prize, missed the top-tier prize of $1,000 a day for life because the Cash Ball drawn didn’t match the one on the ticket.

The winning numbers in the Oct. 9 Cash4Life drawing were 7, 12, 21, 44 and 47; and the Cash Ball was 3. The 7-Eleven in Montgomery County will receive a bonus of $2,500 for selling the second-tier winning ticket.

The winner can choose between a $1,000-a-week-for-life annuity paid in annual installments of $52,000 a year, or a one-time payment of $1 million (prize amounts are before taxes).

This is the second time in 2024 a Maryland Lottery player has matched all but the Cash Ball to win $1,000-a-week-for-life Cash4Life prize and the 10th time since 2016 when the game became available in the state. Maryland has also had five top-prize winners of $1,000 a day for life. Cash4Life drawings are held seven nights a week, tickets are $2, and the game is also available in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Tennessee.

In addition to the big win in Olney, there were 4,022 other winning Cash4Life tickets sold in Maryland for the Oct. 9 drawing, with prizes ranging from $2 to $100. All winners have 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. Lottery officials strongly encourage winners to sign the backs of their tickets immediately and keep them secure.

Instructions on claiming prizes in person or by mail are online under the Claim a Prize link at the top of the Lottery webpage. Players must redeem prizes larger than $25,000 by mail or at the Lottery Claims Center in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330 in Baltimore. The Claims Center is open by appointment only (no walk-ins). Available appointment times and scheduling instructions are on the Lottery website.
