West Virginia man claims prize on a $2 quick-pick ticket
A player who frequently makes his way from his home in West Virginia into Maryland makes it a point to play Maryland Lottery games, particularly jackpot games and scratch-offs. He hit the jackpot on one of his more recent trips when he bought a $2 quick-pick ticket in the April 13 Multi-Match drawing.
The lucky Mineral County resident won the estimated jackpot annuity of $570,000 but selected the cash option, which earned him a $298,995 payout.
The 69-year-old bought his winning ticket several days before the drawing at Circle K #4199 located at 15617 McMullen Highway Southwest in Cumberland. He went to the store’s Lottery kiosk and bought a $2 quick-pick ticket.
The morning after the drawing, he checked his ticket against the winning numbers on the Maryland Lottery website. “I couldn’t believe it,” the lucky player said. He knew he won the jackpot after seeing he had six matches on a single line.
A retired restaurant bar installer, the winner plans to use his prize to go on vacation.
His Lottery retailer, Circle K #4199, also wins. The Allegany County business received a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling the jackpot-winning ticket. This is the third Multi-Match jackpot won in 2023.
