Superfecta bet yields big payday
A Maryland Lottery player from Owings Mills won $75,227 playing Racetrax, but says his grandchildren are the ultimate big winners.
“I’ve got 10 grandbabies. That’s a lot of grandbabies,” the winner said on Jan. 13 after claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The loyal player said he’s thinking about taking all of them to an indoor waterpark and resort in Perryville for a weekend of fun. A few years ago, he took two grandchildren to Great Wolf Lodge. “I think I had more fun than they did!” he said.
The lucky winner has played Racetrax for a long time and has scored other substantial wins in the past. On most days, he also plays Pick 5, buying five $1 straight bet tickets using his license plate number for the five digits. He plays the same combination five times for each draw for the same reason he plays the long-odds, high-payoff horses in Racetrax.
“If I’m going to pay money, I want money,” he said.
For his Racetrax win, he played the 12, 7, 2 and 11 horses for a $1 Superfecta bet per race for 10 races. His horses finished in order in the first race, giving him the hefty payout.
He plans to continue playing Lottery games, especially Pick 5.
“I’d like to hit that five digit (number) just once,” he said. It would pay $250,000 if he did. Win or not, he doesn’t spend any time worrying about it. “If it was meant for me, I’m going to win.”
He bought his hot Racetrax ticket at Euro Liquors, which is located at 10512 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. The store receives a Lottery bonus of $752.27 for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more.
