Pragmatic winner plans to save most of the prize
A Maryland Lottery player from Parkville who was having a good day playing scratch-offs made a decision that gave him a great day later in the week. He added a quick-pick Powerball ticket to the mix for the Sept. 25 drawing. The Baltimore County resident also paid the extra $1 to add the Power Play multiplier option, which turned a $50,000 third-tier win into a $150,000 score.
“I like to gamble just a little,” said the 49-year-old. He enjoys the anticipation of a win and has played most of the Maryland Lottery’s offerings.
“If you win, you win, if you don’t, you don’t,” he said, explaining his Lottery play philosophy. He plans to save most of his $150,000 windfall in case any family members end up needing help in the future. Also, he is pondering the purchase of a car, but said it would be “nothing fancy.”
The winner bought his lucky $4 ticket, which included both the Power Play and Double Play options, at Tobacco 21 located at 2337 Cleanleigh Drive in Parkville.
Players still have time to get tickets for the Saturday, Oct. 9 drawing. The jackpot is $31 million with a cash option of $22 million.
