Pasadena Man Finds Luck with ‘Non-Winning’ Bonus Match 5 Digits

Claims $50,015 prize in June 2 drawing with old set of random numbers

An Anne Arundel County grandfather’s dream of capturing a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win came true this month after the dedicated player didn’t give up on a long-used set of random numbers.

A Lottery fan for four decades, the Pasadena resident enjoys playing a variety of games including Bonus Match 5. He’s developed sets of numbers to play, and among them was a set that hadn’t brought in a win — ever. On June 2, after finishing work, he headed to Geresbeck’s Food Market at 7931 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie.

“I stopped there to play my numbers,” he said. Among the tickets he bought was a $6 Bonus Match 5 ticket for that night’s drawing. The set of digits he played featured nine lines of numbers that had never before led to a prize.

“I checked the drawing the next day at work on my phone,” said the retired U.S. Army veteran. He was seated at a desk when he discovered that one of his sets of previously non-winning numbers had a produced a $50,000 top-prize win, along with $15 in other prizes. “I jumped up for joy! I could hardly stand to wait to tell my wife when I got home.”

Her response: “About time,” said his wife, smiling. “He plays nearly every day.” The happy winner said he plans to pay bills with the prize.
